There are different hypnosis and hypnotherapy organisations - some for psychologists, some for dentists and doctors, and others for 'lay' hypnotherapists, ie therapists who are not medically or psychology qualified, but who are still very experienced and skilled. We have listed some of the larger associations here. We don't recommend any particular hypnosis organisation or association, but this information gives you somewhere to start your search.
The National Council for Hypnotherapy
The national association for professional hypnotherapy in the UK. Represents over 700 practitioners within the United Kingdom, and is committed to ensuring the highest possible professional standards among its members. Includes a list of services such "find a hypnotherapist", training ad supervision. Introduced the first nationally accredited and open to all Diploma in Hypnotherapy (HPD). www.hypnotherapists.org.uk
The British Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis
Founded in 1977 for doctors, dentists and psychologists, the society contains useful information for professionals wishing to further their interests in hypnotherapy, and for the general public wanting to know more about hypnosis, looking for a hypnotherapist or thinking of training to be a hypnotherapist.
The British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis
A national organisation of doctors, dentists and other health professionals within the NHS, who are trained and interested in hypnosis and its use as a therapeutic tool. www.bsmdh.org
The General Hypnotherapy Register
The GHR is the administrating agency for the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council, established to promote the hypnotherapy profession and protect the public by registering individual hypnotherapists who have satisfied training and other criteria.
